On Monday, our work to register households, for the purpose of bed net distribution began. The team drove to Kawempe district, a large low income section of Kampala, where they met several Ugandan staff members and four Village Health Team members. These VHT members live in the district where the nets will be distributed and they led the Canadian members through the district to register households. This involved determining how many people live in the household, recording the name of the head of the household, how many children under 5 live there, how many pregnant women, how many rooms, etc. After this information is gathered the household is labeled with a chalk number which matches the number on a coupon. This coupon will guarantee the household a mosquito net on the day of distribution.
