Monday continued.....

Chairman, a local businessman leads my team throughout Kawempe.  This woman will be registered and will receive a lifesaving net on Thursday.
An older woman, mother of the lady above perhaps, lived in this shed.  It was no bigger than a small garden shed.  She was registered and will receive a life saving malaria net on Thursday.
Here are a few more photos of our net registration.  The man in the orange shirt above is Chairman.  This is not his real name but it is what everyone calls him.  He is a local businessman.  He showed us his small food kiosk and family restaurant located nearby in Kawempe.  He has 5 children.  The older children, young adults, helped with the registration.  His youngest child, a boy, is under one year of age.  I was struck at the living conditions in the region.  The building located behind us in the top photo above was about the size of one classroom.  There were several women in the courtyard and 5 or 6 children.  I thought to myself that although small, there would be enough room for everyone.  But then to my surprise we walked inside and found that the building was broken up into about 8 units and this woman and her family lived in only one.  Some of the rooms were very small, the size of a modest walk-in closet and could fit only a piece of foam for sleeping.  All of these apartments were registered.  The nets are much needed as the walls have holes and the mosquitos enter easily every night.
