Prom Night!

Tonight is Prom Night 2012 and Adrian is off having a great time.  Parents were invited to take pictures and I was pleased to see so many former students (Truedell Alumni) looking so grand.  Where did the years go?  It seems like just yesterday that I was teaching them in grade 5.

Graduation Day!

On Thursday, June 28th, our son Adrian graduated from Frontenac Secondary School.  He achieved great success in grade 12 and will return to FSS in the fall to take a number of science credits.  It was a banner day, weather-wise, and the afternoon was spent with good friends and family members.  The ceremony at FSS began at 7:30 p.m. and a very hot room was filled to capacity.  Adrian received recognition for his academic achievement, sports, community involvement and extra-curricular activities.  Eight proud family members watched from the audience and Dad sat on stage with the staff. Adrian's grade 4 and grade 8 teachers were also in attendance.  Way to go Adrian!  We are all very proud of you!

Exams are Done!

Today, Adrian wrote his last exam.  While he was writing and I was tidying up the flower gardens at Truedell in anticipation of tonight's grade 8 graduation, Pat was busy with his paint brush making the sign below!  Adrian was surprised to see the sign when he arrived home and oh, so pleased to be done his last exam.  Now, he and his Dad are on their way to New York City, a much belated 16th birthday present.  Yes, Adrian is now 18.... it is a long story.  Suffice it to say, good things come to those who wait!  Congratulations Adrian.  Your mom and dad are very proud!

The sign awaits!

Truedell Pride!

Today was a busy day full of fun and rewarding moments.  The day began with lots of sun and heat.  After sending Adrian off to write his exam, Pat and I drove to the garden where we spent several hours tilling, hoeing and watering.  I harvested the last of my radishes and picked spinach and swiss chard.  After that I met Adrian and some of his peers at Truedell for the "Pennant Unveiling Assembly".  The pennants recognize success in sports at Truedell.  Adrian was on the first basketball team to win a championship in his grade 8 year and seven of the players on that original team were present to be recognized.  It seems that they opened the floodgates to future success!  Way to go teams!

Happy Father's Day!

Today was another beautiful day.  The sun was out all day with temperatures around 26 degrees celsius.  Pat enjoyed his breakfast of coffee, fresh strawberries with yogurt and toast with home-made strawberry jam.  Needless to say, it is strawberry season and I went picking yesterday.  Mom and Dad came over for dinner later in the day.  We had grilled chicken, sauteed swiss chard from my garden, sugar snap peas, herbed new potatoes and for dessert, strawberry glazed pie with fresh whipped cream.  Everything was so delicious and oh, so fresh!  I was so busy cooking, eating and enjoying that I forgot to take pictures.  You will have to let your imagination create the image for you.  After dinner Mom and Dad went home and I followed soon after to water their flower garden and get smoked by Dad in two games of cribbage!

Time with Pearl and Andy!

Marion, my niece, and her partner Andy arrived last night from Baltimore on their way to the cottage.  Marion is off for the summer.  Her school year finished early (private school) and now she can enjoy some well deserved down time.  This morning Marion, Andy and Pat went downtown and bought a second kayak for the cottage.  Then we headed north making several stops along the way, including the Wilton Cheese Factory, the Wilton cemetery, and the garden to load up on some fresh organic produce.  Then, they turned left to head further north and I turned right to come back into town.  It was another beautiful day.

Garden Goodness!

Things are really growing in the garden and I am beginning to enjoy some of the fruits of my labours.  We have enjoyed several pickings of spinach and radishes.  The spinach found a home in my salad bowl, joined by this year's first harvest of local strawberries.  I have so many radishes that I shared a bouquet with our neighbour, Glen, the farmer who plowed my garden for me this spring.
